Why This Matters
Across Africa, our grandmothers are the quiet leaders, the peace-makers, and the original givers. But their leadership goes unnamed and unrecorded.
#GoGrandma is a storytelling campaign by GivingTuesday Africa and CivSource Africa that collects and celebrates stories of grandmothers who shaped their communities. Beyond family memories, this campaign is documenting the radical generosity that sustains Africa, ensuring future generations can learn from the women who built our communities.
Your grandmother’s story is our history. Help us make sure it is never forgotten.
How to Participate
You don’t need to be a writer or a filmmaker to join, you just need a story.
Think of a moment when your grandmother made a meaningful difference in her community. Pick the format that feels easiest for you:

Type out your story, from a few sentences to a few paragraphs. Any length and any language are welcome. If you have a photo of her, please include it!

Record a voice note (30–90 seconds). Speak in the language you’re most comfortable with and tell us what you remember about her generosity.

Film a short clip on your phone (up to 2 minutes). You can speak to the camera, show a photo of her while you talk, or even record a quick interview with her.
Keep the chain moving: After you share on social media, invite at least one other person to do the same. This is how our archive grows.
