About the campaign

#GoGrandMa

#GoGrandMa is part of GivingTuesday Africa's Grandmothers of Generosity initiative. We are gathering 1,000 stories from across the continent, and giving each grandmother a Title of Honour drawn from a vetted library of traditions, Ubuntu, Harambee, Teranga, Sankofa, Esusu, Stokvel, Ujamaa, Omoluabi, Letsema, Sadaqah. Her title may also be called her praise name.

Across Africa, grandmothers have always been the quiet engines of generosity. They hold savings circles together. They keep the table full for the stranger. They raise children who are not their own. They lead, civically, spiritually, financially.

Our principles

Draft notice: praise-name meanings on this site are working drafts and will be reviewed by fluent speakers from each tradition before publication.
